Alexandra Bonomo lives in Manhattan where she was born and raised. After a childhood in New York City prep schools, she decided to pursue higher education in New England, first at the Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts and later at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence. At Mount Holyoke, she did the combined Studio Art and Art History major in the last year of its existence and won the Ruth Warful prize for some watercolors that are now in the college’s permanent collection. At RISD, she studied Landscape Architecture, discovered that it was a bad fit, and left the program. However, the experience influenced her work by the inclusion of isometrics, frequent use of computer graphics, approach to flatness and by stimulating interest in the presence of plants in our lives. Since then, she also completed a Graphic Design Certificate at the Parsons School, then worked for seven years at The New School University in a position that had very little to do with graphic design. In addition to working for The New School, she has also worked at the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum both preparing emails and updating the street sign announcing current programs. Before that, she held internships at arts organizations as diverse as Dieu Donne Papermill, The Metropolitan Opera Guild and the Jewish Museum. She currently works for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs helping build and maintain their online resources. In addition to professional work, she has continued her art studies at the Art Students League, where she is a member in good standing studying with teachers including Yuka Imata and Mary Beth McKenzie. Her work has appeared in some of the League’s “Exhibition Outreach” shows, most recently the “Small Works” show at the Manhattan Borough President’s Office in 2019. In addition, her work has appeared in shows hosted by the Pleiades Gallery, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, and in online exhibitions hosted by the Flagler County Art League and The Red Bluff Gallery.
